IT administrators can install ActiveWords once on a Windows Server to make the software available to server users.
Startup Behavior on Servers
To help administrators control licensing, ActiveWords does not automatically start for every server user by default. A user or administrator can start ActiveWords manually, then enable Run ActiveWords at Windows Logon in the Preferences tab of the Options dialog.
Enable Startup for Users
Administrators can turn auto-start on or off for a user or group of users by adding or removing this Registry entry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\ActiveWords
- Value name:
ActiveWords - Value data:
[drive]:\Program Files (x86)\ActiveWords 5\ActiveWords.exe
Enable Startup for All Users
Administrators can override the default behavior and cause ActiveWords to run at Windows logon for all users by running this command immediately after installing ActiveWords on the server and before launching ActiveWords:
[drive]\Program Files (x86)\ActiveWords 5\New User Auto Start Enable.cmd
Use New User Auto Start Disable.cmd to disable this behavior.
User Data and Licensing
When ActiveWords first starts for a user, it creates a data file for that logged-in user in \AppData\Roaming\ActiveWords 5 and requests license activation.
For enterprise activation workflows, see Activate/Deactivate Licenses in the Enterprise.
