Backing Up Your ActiveWords Data

ActiveWords can automatically back up your data, and you can also create a manual backup whenever you want an extra copy.

Automatic Backups

ActiveWords stores automatic backups here:

C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\ActiveWords 5\Backups

Automatic backups are turned on by default. To change the backup frequency or turn automatic backups off, use the backup control on the Preferences tab of the Options dialog.

AppData and System Backups

The AppData folder is a special Windows folder that is hidden by default. Most backup programs, including Windows Backup, include AppData in the standard backup process. If you regularly back up your Windows data, your ActiveWords data is likely included as part of that larger backup.

Create a Manual Backup

  1. Right-click the ActiveWords floating icon or system tray icon and select Options.
  2. Select the Preferences tab.
  3. Check Show advanced tools and options.
  4. Close the Options dialog.
  5. Right-click the ActiveWords icon again and select Advanced, then Backup.
  6. Choose the folder where you want to save the backup, then click Save.
